Top 25 NCAA Football in 2026

College Football Preseason Top 25 is in better shape than the state of affairs in college football. The chaos, as the Top 25 college football teams vie to open the door to more of an opportunity, is the maneuvering of the conferences to compete in the playoff system. Our Top 25 almost matches the oddsmakers in Las Vegas on the probability of winning the National Championship. As the South East Conference has 10 of the 25 spots, the six-spot Big Ten Conference offers a “no deal” on the expanded playoffs for 2025.

Who Appears?

For our money, we see USC, Nebraska, Auburn, and Oklahoma as emerging programs in to the 2025 college football season in the Top 25 College Football Teams. They were not on the final GTM’s Top 25 just before the playoffs began in 2024, nor did they finish in the Top 25. Almost a Legends sub-district in their own right, each has something to prove in college football in 2025. Nebraska has been rebuilding under Matt Rhule’s program saving skills while Auburn’s coach deals with cancer related issues, perhaps providing motivation for an inspired year. USC and Oklahoma have failed to materialize a successful season amid coaching and personnel changes, may have settled in for a December Bowl season game, albeit a far off desire to go to the dance will allude them.

Who Falls from Grace?

BYU, perhaps has the best chance of returning to the Top 25 during the season than let’s say Army, Illinois, Memphis, UNLV, Syracuse, or Colorado and even Missouri (given Missouri’s schedule), but still unlikely with the loss of their talented and hard working Quarterback. Missouri’s coach offered a more open field opportunity to participate in the playoff system, but for them to be in it, they would have to have an NAIA, NJCAA, or FCS system in place. And, that is not going to happen!

Everyone cannot wait to see what Prime does at Colorado now that all of his peeps have left the building. I personally like Prime from the perspective, this less flashy guys can produce on the field in a quiet fashion and under the radar.

Illinois, Syracuse, and UNLV are a little different in that they have been steadily improving and motivation to get an opportunity to enter the fray has been a big motivator! Unfortunately, just like with Memphis, they just cannot draw enough talent to make a year in and year out run at winning their conferences, nonetheless a spot in the current field or eight!
