Nikola announced today that Tom’s Truck Center, a leader in commercial truck sales and part of the Nikola sales and service dealer network, has opened the first hydrogen refueling station at a commercial truck dealership. The new Nikola HYLA modular hydrogen refueling station, located at Tom’s Truck Center in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles County, supports heavy-duty trucks, including Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, along the busy Highway 5 corridor.

According to the press release, the high-pressure (700-bar) station can refuel up to 30 trucks daily and operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., with HYLA Ambassadors/Operations Technicians ensuring efficient service. By minimizing downtime for truck refueling, this facility is expected to play a critical role in advancing hydrogen-powered transportation.

Onsite Hydrogen Refueling Station Unveiling

“We are proud to help drive this transition toward a hydrogen-powered future,” said Tom’s Truck Center President and CEO KC Heidler in their press release. He highlighted the importance of supporting customers who choose hydrogen-powered units and emphasized the station’s role in reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.

The station’s unveiling event drew notable attendees of the onsite hydrogen refueling stations, including State Senators Josh Newman and Bob Archuleta, as well as Nikola Corporation President and CEO Stephen Girsky. Senator Newman praised the development as a key milestone in California’s progress toward decarbonizing transportation systems, citing its potential to replace diesel with renewable energy sources.

Future Plans for Onsite Hydrogen Refueling Stations

Other HYLA hydrogen refueling locations in California include Long Beach and Ontario, with a total of 14 stations expected to be operational by the end of 2024. Tom’s Truck Center also offers a range of services for EV and hydrogen trucks, including sales, leasing, and guidance on government incentive programs. The company plans to build a permanent hydrogen refueling station by the end of 2026.
