FMCSA Announces Plans to Observe National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced today how it will be observing the National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. The National Truck Driver Appreciation Week will be taking place from September 15-21, 2024. The week celebrates hard work and dedication of over 3.5 million professional truck drivers. American truck drivers across the United States are essential in keeping the nation’s economy running by delivering crucial goods such as food, medicine, and clothing. The FMCSA will celebrate the week by hosting a series of events to recognize contributions of the American trucker.

FMCSA Media Outreach Events

The FMCSA will kick off the week on Sunday, September 15, by sharing digital content on social media to show truck drivers their appreciation. They ask that you help them thank American truck drivers by using FMCSA’s shareable content to thank them yourself on Monday, September 16 on your own social media.

On Tuesday, Vinn White, FMCSA Deputy Administrator, will visit a Virginia weigh station to personally thank truck drivers. Videos and photos from the visit will be posted on the FMCSA website at 11:00 a.m. ET. On Wednesday, the FMCSA will announce at a live press conference the CDL training grants in partnership with Maryland community colleges. The live press conference will be at 10:00 a.m. ET.

Women In Trucking

On Thursday, September 19, the US Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary, Polly Trottenberg, and the FMCSA will host a special photo gallery event at USDOT headquarters, highlighting women truck drivers. This special photo gallery event is open to the public and media. Additionally, women in trucking will also be highlighted on the final day of the week of appreciation. Saturday, September 21, Sue Lawless, the FMCSA Chief Safety Officer, appearing on Sirius XM’s Road Dog Radio – Women in Trucking Show at 11:00 a.m. ET.

US Veterans

On Friday, September 20 the FMCSA plans to honor military veteran truck drivers with special social media highlights.
