Volvo Trucks North America Addresses Steering Component Issue in 2024 Models

Volvo Trucks North America has officially notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a safety recall involving certain 2024 VNL, VHD, and VNR trucks. The recall pertains to specific models and years of manufacture, including 2024 Volvo VHD, 2024 Volvo VNL, and 2024 Volvo VNR models, with approximately 1,933 of these vehicles produced.

The safety concern centers around a fastener that connects two critical steering components, namely the pitman arm and the draglink. In some cases, this fastener may be loose, which can potentially lead to a failure of the connection. Such a failure could result in a loss of steering control, which in turn increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

To address this issue, Volvo Trucks will take corrective action by inspecting the affected vehicles and tightening the castle nuts. Additionally, new cotter pins will be installed to ensure the secure connection of the steering components. These repairs will be performed free of charge for vehicle owners.

Owner notification letters for this safety recall are scheduled to be mailed out on December 4, 2023.
