Safety Recall: PACCAR Addresses Fuel Tank Issue in 2021-2024 Peterbilt 567 and 579 Models

PACCAR Incorporated has officially informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about a safety recall involving specific tractors. The recall applies to 2021-2024 Peterbilt 567 and 2021-2024 Peterbilt 579 models, encompassing an estimated 1,315 potentially affected vehicles.

The safety concern at the core of this recall is related to the U-bolts that secure the air tank to the chassis. Over time, these U-bolts may come into contact with the fuel tank and cause wear that can lead to a hole in the tank. The potential consequence is a punctured fuel tank, which can result in fuel leakage, thereby increasing the risk of a fire.

To rectify this issue and ensure the safety of the affected vehicles, authorized dealers will conduct inspections of the tractors. If necessary, the U-bolts will be trimmed to prevent contact with the fuel tank, and any damaged fuel tanks will be replaced. All of these necessary repairs will be performed free of charge for vehicle owners.

Owner notification letters for this safety recall are expected to be sent out on November 24, 2023. Vehicle owners who require further information or have inquiries regarding this recall can contact Peterbilt’s customer service at 1-940-591-4220.
